Adding competitors and markets
Markets define where you measure AI visibility. Competitors define who you measure it against. Here's how to set them up.

Markets
Each market is one language paired with one geography. AuthorityLayer derives an execution context per market so prompts are localized and competitive comparisons stay apples-to-apples.
Target vs. Observed competitors
Target Competitors are the brands you want to win against — your strategic intent. Observed Competitors are the brands AI actually surfaces alongside you. The gap between the two is one of the most important strategic signals in AuthorityLayer.
Best practices
- Add 3–6 Target Competitors per market — enough to measure share, few enough to stay focused
- Review Observed Competitors monthly; promote new ones to Target when they keep appearing
- Avoid adding competitors from adjacent industries you don't actually compete with
